Veeam Certified Engineer – VMCE v9 Upgrade & Changes
You can now pre-register for updates for the new Veeam Certified Engineer Certification (VMCE) v9 which will be coming soon. I would expect short after the GA of the new Availability Suite, the VMCE v9 course and exam will be available.
As with VMCE v8 there will be an upgrade path for existing VMCE v7 and v8.
There are 5 ways to get VMCE v9 certified.
New students for VMCE v9
If you have no previous Veeam certification you have to go through the official VMCE training course which is 3 days long. It’s available as Instructor-Led Training (ILT), Live Online, or Video-on-Demand Learning (VODL) at one of the available Veeam Authorized Education Centers (VMAEC). After that you can take the proctored VMCE v9 exam at an available Pearson Vue testing center.
VMCE v7 course attendees with no exam
If you attended an VMCE v7 course but didn’t take the exam you have to go through the complete VMCE v9 training course. After the course is completed the student can take the VMCE v9 proctored exam to get the VMCE v9 certification.
VMCE v7 engineers
VMCE 7 certified engineers who did not upgrade to VMCE v8 will exceptionally be provided with a free “What’s new V9” online course (available through Veeam University). After that you will then have to validate the full VMCE 9 exam at a Pearson Vue test center.
VMCE v8 course attendees with no exam
VMCE 8 course attendees who didn’t validate VMCE 8 exam will exceptionally be provided with a free “What’s new V9” online course. Then you will have to validate the VMCE 9 “delta” exam at a Pearson Vue test center.
VMCE v8 engineers
VMCE 8 Certified Engineers will be provided with a free “What’s New v9” online course (and potentially practice exam). After that Engineers will automatically upgrade their status to VMCE v9 once completed.
Changes in the VMCE certification maintenance
Starting VMCE v9, Veeam evolves the mandatory paying VMCE upgrade certification rules from an “every major release” to “every two major release” process.
Example:
- VMCE 8 certified engineers are provided with a free upgrade to their VMCE v9 status. They will have to validate again for VMCE v10 through a Pearson Vue proctored exam and potentially “What’s New” paying course.
- New students who validate VMCE v9 through a paying course and exam will be provided with a free upgrade path for VMCE 10. They will have to validate again VMCE v11 through a Pearson Vue proctored exam and potentially “What’s New” paying course.
